Why online content writers need to be persistent

If you were ever asked to think about the qualities an online content creator should possess, persistence may not be the first thing that springs to mind. Being determined in your approach to your chosen craft is important to further your career and for integrity’s sake too.

In a fast-paced industry such as digital marketing it is quite easy to get caught up in the whirl of activity and churn out content just for content’s sake – fortunately, this is something writers are not expected to do any longer, as high quality copy is so much more valuable than a large volume of mediocre writing.

Why must a writer demonstrate persistence?

Whether you are writing marketing copy for websites, have your own blog or are working to get your novel published it has been said that you only require two out of the three keys integral to success: talent, luck and persistence. This can be made to relate to all aspects of life and not just writing.

Even those with just a spark of innate talent to be a writer can work hard and keep on going to become better at what they do. Those producing the best output are not necessarily the best writers. But persistence is all about not giving up. Keep writing.

Not all your work will be appreciated, but it is necessary to keep on going and not give up. If something you do does work well, do more of that as learning from success is even better than learning from failure.

Not noticing any changes in web traffic?

By adding new content to a site in the form of regular blog posts and sharing them via social channels you can inform potential customers about the latest goings-on in your industry or put a view across relating to current topics for debate.

However, if you expect rankings to change straight away and still have relatively few followers on Twitter and Facebook, this is no cause for alarm. It can take time and effort to build up a dedicated readership and get people to link to your posts.

Success is not always instant so you need to have a long-term strategy in place. Developing a well-thought-out plan can help keep you focused and motivated. Persistence is certainly key.

There is nothing wrong with regularly reviewing the site and weighing the impact adding fresh content has had in terms of how well it is ranking in search engine results pages, but believe in what you are doing and stick to your plan.

Developing a thick skin and a determination to get it right

We’d like our clients to approve every piece of content written for their sites without any amendments required. However, realistically, even if you have a good editorial team checking through everything for errors, there may still be subjective issues.

The cost and rewards of persistence

The obvious cost here is time. Customer satisfaction cannot be achieved in an instant, but if the business relationship is built on the core values of integrity and commitment then this should ensure that both parties remain happier in the long run. Good work can lead to referrals, positive reviews and the rest simply takes care of itself.

By being persistent and putting more into the work you produce, you can begin to feel more fulfilled as a writer. Some people find a level of achievement by writing to help others, while it is quite understandable you’d want to put your talent to good use for your own benefit. Whatever your motivation, you will need to persevere if you wish to make the most of your career as an online content writer.
