Video Interview – Transition from university to full time work
I’m a Marketing Management student currently on a six-month placement with global internet marketing agency, Just Search. I have been to assigned to them by my university tutor along with four other fellow students.
Nik Hewitt the Head of Social Media at Just Search and Adam White is a recent graduate who works with Nik on the social media team. As part of my experience, I was tasked with producing a video interview on how Adam has found the transition from studying at university to full time employment in an agency. The video has been used and circulated by Just Search and also by myself as part of my studies, ensuring that both parties get maximum exposure from the time spent together.
In the video, I play the role of interviewer and Adam plays the role of interviewee. To start with, Adam and myself constructed the content, layout and order of the questioning. The questions were designed to capture Adam’s experience of the transition from studying to working in an agency and acknowledged the fact that Adam had recently graduated from an Advertising and Brand Management course, which is very similar to the Marketing Management course I am studying. Once we this was completed, we set about working on the actual recording of the video.
We decided against a test run of the questioning to keep the conversation (and, more importantly, the answers) as natural as possible. Our ‘first take’ of the interview ran smoothly, so much so that we didn’t to apply any editing (save for the beginning and ending images) so the next step was to publish the video on the Just Search website, as well as sending it through the various social channels including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
